Good Luck in the New Year! This is what we all wish for each other and what we all wish to have for the New Year. But, what brings us luck? How about horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, lucky pennies or rabbit’s feet? Poor rabbit! In Germany, there is also another little creature who is said to bring about good luck, the ladybug. This tradition might be familiar to some of you. After all, if something can bring you good luck, people tend to spread the news. How did ladybugs come to be such lucky creatures? Well, there is no one answer, but it seems to have its origins in agriculture. Long, long ago farmers noticed that ladybugs would come and eat other insects including those that damage crops. For this reason, the farmers probably called them lucky because it would bring about a good harvest. It was also a good way to keep people from harming the much treasured ladybugs. Today, in Germany, the ladybug is still a predominant symbol of luck. It is for this reason that for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and for the New Year, people present each other with symbols of the ladybug. And one very popular form, namely a chocolate version, can be found in our shop.

Only a couple of days left: On 5th May the 6th Annual STV German Language School Maifest is taking place on 3349 J St Sacramento, CA 95816.
We are happy to announce that we, the GermanShop24.com, are going to sponsor candies for this event. Meet us in person at this event. We will also have a little booth with a selected variety of German deli food.
The Maifest is one of mankind’s oldest traditions: It’s the celebration of nature’s bright reawakening after winter’s cold darkness. The ancient festival is now a colorful, joyous part of history and culture.
The custom of the maypole (the “Maibaum”) began in the tenth century, when villagers would erect a pole in the local square and decorate it with sausages, cakes and multicolored ribbons. Dancing around the maypole, medieval citizens believed, would bring good luck and wealth.
Its religious and superstitious aspects have long since disappeared, but the Maifest is still celebrated throughout Germany, where cities and villages are bedecked with colorful drapery and flowers and the maypole (“Maibaum) is decorated to show off the history and crafts of the town. The Maifest is a great opportunity to enjoy German food and delicacies. Traditionally, food is plentiful and beer and wine flow freely.
Enjoy a great afternoon with a little piece of Germany.

A unique recipe, which unites ingredients with very strong “personalities” – dark chocolate, liqueur, cherry – in a combination that is both intense and harmonious at the same time. Then the choice of colour: red, that conveys the intense sensations that Mon Chéri offers. Mon Chéri, to express the tender feelings of whoever gives or receives Mon Chéri. Mon Chéri is all of this. For everyone’s pleasure. Express your feelings and enjoy the moment!
Don’t forget to order now in our shop. Mon Chéri are only left for a limited time period. They will not be available during summer time.

During the past few month, we got many request from customers living in the EU to ship to several European countries such as United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy, France and many more. All these customers are missing German Food and specialties, they know from the time they lived in Germany or when they visited Germany. Since it was a bigger technical and tax related issue, we were not able to serve the European countries – until now. Today we changed our system and added shipping to all European countries and some others (e.g. Switzerland, Turkey and Island). For all orders within Europe, we have to collect sales tax. After creating an account with a EU address, you will see the prices including tax. At checkout you will also see the tax rate. Good news: European customers do not have to worry about import tax and customs duty, because shipping within the EU is duty free. Our European shipping rates with FedEx starting from $12.91 for up to 10kg – an unbeatable price for FedEx Express Service!
If you have any questions regarding shipping within the EU, please feel free to contact us.
